Emergency at Russian mine: over 130 miners evacuated
More than 130 miners are being evacuated from the Alardinskaya coal mine in Russia’s Kemerovo Region after dangerous levels of carbon monoxide were detected underground, Russian media reported on May 7.
According to Interfax, a total of 132 workers were inside the mine at the time of the incident. Regional authorities said that more than 100 miners had already been brought safely to the surface, while emergency rescue operations remained ongoing.
Mine rescue teams were dispatched to the scene to assist with the evacuation and monitor conditions inside the facility. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
The Alardinskaya mine, operated by PJSC Raspadskaya, is located in the southern part of the Kemerovo Region, one of Russia’s main coal-producing areas. The mine produces approximately 3 million tonnes of coal annually and holds reserves estimated at more than 420 million tonnes.
