EU diplomat says recent steps by Baku and Yerevan support lasting peace
The recent measures taken as part of the normalisation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia are expected to play a key role in promoting lasting peace in the region, the European Union’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kujundžić, has said.
Speaking to domestic media, Kujundžić noted that she had recently presented her credentials to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, describing the meeting as being held in a positive atmosphere.
“We discussed the prospects of cooperation programs between the European Union and Azerbaijan, including energy, transport, railway infrastructure, and digital transformation. The talks were very positive,” the ambassador said.
She highlighted that special attention was given to the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the demining of liberated territories.
“We also touched upon the recent steps taken by both countries, and I congratulated President Ilham Aliyev. I am confident that these processes will contribute to peace and stability in the region,” Kujundžić emphasised.
Kujundžić was appointed to a new position on September 1.
The diplomat previously served as Croatia's representative to the Political and Security Committee and held other positions, including advisor to the External Relations Working Group at Croatia’s Permanent Representation to the EU, and the EU delegation in Azerbaijan.
