EU Mission extends presence on Armenia-Azerbaijan border "as needed"
Armenia and the European Union have agreed to maintain the presence of the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA) along the border with Azerbaijan for a duration determined by Armenia’s needs.
This commitment is outlined in the document “Strategic Agenda for the EU–Armenia Partnership”, adopted on December 2 in Brussels and published on December 3 on the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s website, Report informs.
The document states: "Ensure the full operational capability of the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) to monitor and report on the security situation along the border with Azerbaijan, support the safety of people in conflict-affected areas of Armenia, and strengthen confidence in support of peace and stability in the region. Work to maintain EUMA’s presence for as long as needed."
For context, EUMA began operations on February 20, 2023. The EU Council extended the mandate of the monitoring mission in Armenia for two years on 30 January 2025, now set to run until February 19, 2027.
