First UN-backed youth climate forum in Azerbaijan wraps up with policy proposals Photo
The closing ceremony of the First Local Conference of Youth (LCOY), under the auspices of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), took place at the Sea Breeze Resort in Baku on September 2.
The two-day gathering, which opened on September 1, focused on climate change, sustainable development and youth engagement in the global climate agenda, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Among those addressing the closing session were Mukhtar Babayev, the Azerbaijani President’s Special Representative for Climate Affairs, Firuze Sultanzade, head of the Eco-Sphere Social and Ecological Centre and member of the COP29 Organising Committee, and Indira Hajiyeva, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport.
Other speakers included Milli Majlis MP and ADA University Vice-Rector Fariz Ismayilzade, as well as Rafig Aslanov, the head of the State Control Service for Water Use and Protection under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency
The programme featured panel discussions and expert presentations. Delegates also debated and adopted the final version of the Azerbaijani Youth Climate Declaration.
The event was organised by the Eco-Sphere Social and Ecological Centre in partnership with Baku State University and the Sea Breeze Resort, with media support from Caspian International Broadcasting Company (CBC).
