FM Bayramov: Azerbaijani firms invested nearly $1 billion in Montenegro
Azerbaijani companies have invested close to $1 billion in Montenegro, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said during a joint press conference with Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ervin Ibragimović, in Baku.
Bayramov described the current level of bilateral trade as “unsatisfactory” and highlighted discussions on tourism cooperation, including the potential for direct flights between the capitals of the two countries, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He noted that Azerbaijan and Montenegro have established productive collaboration across several sectors and have signed 22 bilateral agreements to date. “Our relations are built on friendship and long-standing cooperation,” Bayramov said, describing Ibragimović’s visit as “important and timely.”
The ministers also signed a memorandum on consular cooperation, which will include regular consular consultations. Bayramov emphasised the significance of the intergovernmental commission and indicated that Ibragimović is expected to meet Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister Sahil Babaev during the visit. He also suggested that a session of the commission could be held before the end of the year.
Bayramov highlighted opportunities for collaboration in transport and logistics, noting ongoing Azerbaijani involvement in relevant projects. He also pointed to potential in the humanitarian sector, particularly in education, culture, and sport, and confirmed student exchange programmes between the two countries’ universities.
The ministers additionally discussed NATO cooperation. Bayramov said Montenegro, as a NATO member, maintains “close and constructive relations” with Azerbaijan.
Finally, he briefed Ibragimović on the Washington agreements of August 8 and post-conflict developments in the South Caucasus, including reconstruction efforts in territories recently returned to Azerbaijani control.
