FM: Russia awaits interim US peace plan following consultations with Europe, Ukraine
Russia is expecting the United States to provide a version of a peace plan that Washington considers to be an interim agreement with Europe and Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
Speaking at a press conference following a joint meeting of Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries, Lavrov said Moscow has channels for dialogue with US officials, which will be used, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“We are awaiting from them [our American colleagues] the version that they consider as interim, in terms of completing the phase of consultation with Europeans and Ukrainians,” Lavrov said.
Earlier, U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met Russian officials in Abu Dhabi to discuss a peace plan for the war in Ukraine, following recent U.S.-Ukraine efforts to narrow differences over a 28-point proposal.
The plan, which surprised many in Washington, Kyiv, and Europe, would require Ukraine to cede territory, limit its military, and abandon NATO ambitions—conditions Kyiv has long rejected. Driscoll is also expected to meet Ukrainian officials during his visit.
