Freight train derails in Russia’s Kirov region, disrupting passenger travel VIDEO
A freight train derailed in Russia’s Kirov region on the afternoon of January 31, leaving 21 wagons off the tracks and causing significant disruption to long-distance rail services, officials said.
The incident occurred on February 1 on the Orichi–Shalegovo section of the railway, Caliber.Az reports via the Investigative Committee of Russia. No injuries were reported.
Three recovery trains were dispatched to clear the site and repair the damage.
Russia’s Investigative Committee for Transport released video footage on Telegram showing the aftermath of the derailment, with overturned wagons scattered along the track.
Russian Railways (RZD) said the accident damaged around 900 metres of railway infrastructure, leading to delays for 20 long-distance passenger trains. Authorities arranged reserve services to transport affected passengers, while nine trains were rerouted along alternative lines.
An investigation into the cause of the derailment is underway.
