From Baku to the world: Turkish media captures the spirit of COP29’s opening day
Haber Global TV channel has provided comprehensive coverage of the opening day of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which commenced in Baku.
The major international event has gathered delegates from more than 100 countries to address strategies for tackling climate change, Caliber.Az reports citing the coverage.
The channel's journalists and experts have been actively highlighting key aspects of the conference, offering in-depth analysis and sharing significant remarks made by participants.
One of the prominent moments featured was a speech by Bünyamin Sürmeli, Chief Meteorologist of Haber Global TV. He underscored the critical state of the global climate, referencing the evident impacts, such as severe droughts in Azerbaijan, Spain, and Italy.
“Our planet is trying to restore balance, but human activities are jeopardizing this equilibrium,” Sürmeli stressed. He also pointed out that COP29 is addressing essential topics such as financing and the development of legislation to support the transition to cleaner production technologies.
Haber Global TV also reported on the opening of Türkiye's pavilion at COP29. The event was attended by several Turkish ministers, including Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. In his address, Minister Kurum highlighted Türkiye's strategic projects aimed at combating climate change and emphasized the importance of the conference for bolstering brotherly relations with Azerbaijan. He stated that Türkiye is participating in COP29 “with a strong team.” The pavilion will prominently showcase the Zero Waste Programme, led under the patronage of Türkiye's First Lady, Emine Erdoğan.
Furthermore, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Azerbaijan on November 11 to attend COP29. He was greeted at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and other officials.
The opening ceremony of COP29 took place on November 11, marking the beginning of a critical event in the global fight against climate change. The conference, which will continue until November 22, is expected to attract considerable global attention and drive substantial climate action.
A highly anticipated component of the conference is the High-Level Segment of the Climate Action Summit, scheduled for November 12-13. This segment will feature around 80 heads of state and government from countries party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), who will outline their national commitments and strategies for addressing climate change.
The world leaders’ speeches will proceed throughout November 13, setting a robust foundation for further deliberations on climate policies, solutions, and collaborative efforts. COP29 is recognized as a crucial opportunity for nations to reaffirm their climate objectives and advance global cooperation.
