Gas explosion in Russia's Sochi leaves one dead, three injured
A gas explosion occurred in a residential building on Timiryazev Street in the Russian city of Sochi, killing one person and injuring three others, Mayor Andrei Proshunin announced.
The mayor’s statement came after an earlier report from the Emergencies Ministry, which had initially mentioned only one injured person.
According to Proshunin, the fire that followed the explosion was promptly extinguished, and 70 residents were evacuated from the building. He noted that a city administration operational headquarters has been established at the site, while law enforcement and emergency services continue their work in the area.
The Krasnodar Krai branch of the Emergencies Ministry later reported that two of the injured are in serious condition. The agency also confirmed that the explosion caused structural damage, destroying several walls and shattering the windows of three apartments.
Preliminary information from the Emergencies Ministry indicates that the blast occurred around 1:10 a.m. on the fourth floor of the multi-story building. The explosion triggered a fire that spread across approximately 15 square meters before being brought under control.
