Georgia detains 14 foreigners over illegal stay Including Azerbaijanis
Georgian authorities have detained 14 foreign nationals, including citizens of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and Morocco, the country’s Interior Ministry said.
According to the Interior Ministry, the individuals had been residing in Georgia illegally for several years, violating the conditions of the asylum procedure, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The ministry added that the foreigners did not comply with the terms of a voluntary departure program, which offers a legal pathway to leave the country. As a result, the Migration Department of the Interior Ministry decided to detain them.
The detainees have been placed in a migration detention centre pending deportation to their countries of origin, the ministry said.
