Georgia hosts "Commando" performance to honour Azerbaijani soldiers in second Karabakh war

27 September 2024 11:58

"Commando" performance, commemorating the anniversary of the second Karabak war, has been demonstrated in the Nodar Dumbadze Youth Theatre in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

The performance, which highlights the heroism of an Azerbaijani soldier during this war, was created by the Era Theatre staff with the initiative and support of the Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Before the performance began, attendees observed a moment of silence to honour the martyrs. Azerbaijani Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia Faig Guliyev spoke about the struggle of the Azerbaijani people for freedom, emphasising that the country’s independence was restored thanks to the diligent efforts and visionary policy of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev.

"In the early years of independence, 20 per cent of the Azerbaijani territory was occupied by enemy forces. Due to the foresight of our national leader Heydar Aliyev and the determination of our victorious Supreme Commander, President Ilham Aliyev, our lands were liberated during the 44-day second Karabakh war," the ambassador highlighted.

The ambassador also noted that during the first and second Karabakh wars, the Azerbaijani people lost many sons, including ethnic Azerbaijanis from Georgia.

“Azerbaijan always pays attention to and cares for the families of martyrs and war veterans,” Guliyev added.

Rahila Rustamova, mother of martyr Salimhan Bayramov, expressed gratitude to President Aliyev for the support and care extended to the families of martyrs.

“Not only me, but all mothers of martyrs take pride in their sons,” she said.

Director and artistic leader of the performance, Anar Rafigoglu, emphasised that the aim of the performance is to show the heroism of the soldiers and officers of the valiant Azerbaijani army.

The main storyline revolves around the bravery of commanders and doctor Nigar as they attempt to rescue a wounded soldier from the battlefield during the 44-day second Karabakh war. The performance featured young actors Elnur Valizade, Elvir Hasanoglu, Gul Jafarova, and Ali Ilgaroglu.

Attendees included the ambassadors of Türkiye and Turkmenistan in Georgia, Georgian officials, leaders from AZEBI and other organisations, businessmen, religious figures, family members of martyrs, scholars, representatives of art, culture, as well as community members and students.
