Georgian MPs slam EU over corruption allegations “Address your own corruption”
European institutions prefer to “look for a speck in someone else’s eye” rather than address their own corruption issues.
The comment was made by David Matikashvili, a member of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Earlier, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) confirmed conducting searches at the headquarters of the EU’s diplomatic service and the detention of three individuals in connection with an alleged fraud investigation.
“The European Union, instead of pointing fingers and looking for a speck in someone else’s eye, would be better off finding the log in their own. Hardly a week goes by without another scandal involving corruption or other crimes by officials of European institutions,” Matikashvili said.
According to him, the problem of corruption is far more acute within the EU than in the countries that “EU officials are accustomed to pointing fingers at.”
Georgy Sosiashvili, another member of the parliamentary majority, also criticised the EU.
“They have destroyed the EU’s authority, are mired in corruption themselves, and are leading the union toward disintegration. It is extremely regrettable,” Sosiashvili said.
