Global event hears Azerbaijani side of Karabakh story from renowned photographer Deghati
World-renowned photographer Reza Deghati has brought international attention to the realities of the Karabakh region during a high-profile photography event in Yunnan Province, China.
Deghati was invited as a keynote speaker and mentor at the 9th Photo Meeting of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), an event jointly organised by FIAP, the China Photographic Art Society, and the provincial Departments of Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Tourism, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The 15-day event gathered more than 400 photographers from 40 countries, offering a dynamic platform for creative exchange and cultural dialogue. During his participation, Reza Deghati not only shared his vast photographic experience but also used the stage to present the often-overlooked narratives surrounding the Karabakh conflict.
In a powerful presentation accompanied by striking photographs and video footage taken across various conflict zones, Deghati spotlighted the lesser-known Azerbaijani perspective on Karabakh. His remarks struck a chord with many attendees, sparking significant interest and discussion.
“What surprised me most was that, with the exception of the representative from Türkie, the other 399 photographers knew only Armenian legends about Karabakh,” said Deghati. “This shows that we still have a long way to go in spreading the truth about Karabakh. But I am confident that the truth will prevail.”
Deghati’s speech is being viewed as a critical step toward ensuring that diverse voices and narratives are heard in the ongoing global discourse surrounding Karabakh.
