Greek ambassador highlights strategic energy cooperation with Azerbaijan
Greece is prepared to support the expansion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) should the need arise, according to Greek Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Christos Kapodistrias.
Speaking at an official reception in Baku to mark Greece’s National Day, Kapodistrias stated, "Greece is ready to back the expansion of TAP, should the need arise, to meet the growing energy demands," Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"Additionally, Greece is focusing on the future of energy infrastructure, considering that today’s gas pipelines may be adapted for hydrogen transport in the future," he added.
The Ambassador also noted that TAP currently supplies around 25% of Greece's natural gas needs.
He further emphasised the strategic significance of the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB), which holds potential for enhancing energy security in Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine.
Kapodistrias highlighted the successful energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Greece, stating, "TAP is a key infrastructure project through which Azerbaijani gas reaches Europe.
This is particularly crucial at a time when the continent is facing energy supply challenges. TAP has been safely and reliably transporting Azerbaijani natural gas to Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, and other countries for over four years."
