Hungary asks EU to increase capacity for Azerbaijani gas
Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó has said that official Budapest has appealed to the European Union to increase the capacity of natural gas in order to increase imports from Azerbaijan.
"We have asked the European Union to increase the capacity of the pipeline network in Southeast Europe so that we can buy more gas from Azerbaijan, Qatar, Türkiye, with which we already have contracts or contracts are under preparation. Without increasing the capacity of the pipeline, we will not be able to solve this issue," Szijjártó said at an energy forum in Baku on June 5, as reported by Caliber.Az.
He also noted that Europe is putting strong pressure on Hungary to diversify gas supplies.
"The problem is that we have different definitions of diversification. Our definition of diversification is that we have more sources. And we do not agree with the definition, which is the replacement of already existing sources with other sources," Szijjártó emphasised.
