International Committee of Red Cross ends mission in Azerbaijan
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has announced the conclusion of its mission in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons operated in cooperation with the Representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Azerbaijan in accordance with international humanitarian law to facilitate the release of captured and hostage citizens, as well as to search for people missing as a result of Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Since the beginning of the conflict, both organisations have received family members of prisoners of war, hostages, and missing people. Their appeals and concerns were carefully reviewed, necessary measures were taken, lists were updated, and information was exchanged. Families, including those of individuals recently released from captivity or hostage situations, were provided with social and psychological support.
In light of the upcoming closure of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Representation in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Commission and relevant state organisations inform families of missing people that urgent actions are underway to determine the fate of their relatives. Intensive search, excavation, and exhumation operations are being conducted in territories liberated from occupation, including the identification of discovered remains and the transfer of identified remains of missing martyrs to their families. The State Commission’s Working Group continues reviewing citizens’ appeals, maintaining daily contact with families, and accepting new applications.
For information about missing relatives or to submit relevant documents, statements, or appeals, citizens can contact the Working Group via email at info@human.gov.az, by mobile phone at +994 10 232 33 77, or through the hotline at 81-61.
The Working Group is located at: 1 Ismayil Bay Gutgashinli Street, Yasamal District, Baku, Azerbaijan.
