Iran envoy names engine of economic relations between Tehran and Baku

The engine of Iran's economic relations with neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, is transport and transit.

Trend reports, quoting Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Seyyed Abbas Mousavi as saying at a meeting with the governor-general of the Iranian province of Gilan, Asadollah Abbasi.

According to the ambassador, as part of this, the current Iranian government seeks to develop relations with neighboring countries.

Mousavi added that against the backdrop of relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, the transport infrastructure of the Iranian province of Gilan must be upgraded to match its potential.

The Iranian ambassador noted that conditions have been created for trade exchanges between Iran and Russia in the road and rail transport sector through Azerbaijan. Thus, over the past year, 700,000 tons of products were exported from Iran to Russia via the Astara railway.

According to statistics from the Iranian Customs Administration, for the 9th month of the current Iranian year (March 21 - December 21, 2023), Iran exported 583,000 tons of non-oil products worth $380 million through Astara Customs. Imports of products to Iran amounted to 118,000 tons worth 144 million dollars, transit of products – 559,000 tons.
