Iran's, Türkiye's presidents discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan agreements at SCO summit
On the sidelines of the SCO summit in China, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed the latest agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Pezeshkian voiced support for the agreements aimed at stabilising peace in the region and opposed any foreign military presence in the Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Erdoğan emphasised the importance of political stability in Iraq, called for an end to mass killings in Gaza, and highlighted ongoing consultations with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to maintain peace in the Caucasus.
For the record, on August 8, US President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House for a historic signing ceremony that marked a breakthrough in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process. The agreement, described as a joint declaration, outlined steps toward normalising relations between the two nations.
A central element of the deal is the establishment of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also called the Zangezur corridor, a 27-mile (43 km) transit corridor through Armenia’s Syunik province, connecting mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave, which borders Türkiye and Iran.
