Iran sends over 100 tons of emergency aid to quake-hit Afghanistan
Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has dispatched more than 100 tons of emergency humanitarian aid to Afghanistan’s eastern provinces, which were devastated by a 6.0-magnitude earthquake on August 31.
Razieh Alishvandi, Deputy for International Affairs and Humanitarian Law at IRCS, said the shipment, sent by both air and land, came at the direction of the IRCS president and in response to an urgent request from the Afghan Red Crescent, according to Mehr.
The aid package includes food, tents, blankets, clothing, and other essential supplies to support emergency shelter and relief efforts for those affected.
Alishvandi stressed that the IRCS has a longstanding tradition of assisting nations facing humanitarian crises and reaffirmed Iran’s solidarity with the people of Afghanistan in the wake of the disaster.
The earthquake, which struck Afghanistan’s eastern provinces on August 31, has resulted in more than 2,200 deaths, with aftershocks continuing to affect the region.
