A high-level Iranian delegation visited the Baku International Sea Trade Port on April 9, signaling growing momentum in bilateral economic cooperation between Tehran and Baku.
The joint visit was led by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzana Sadiq, both of whom serve as co-chairs of the Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade, and Humanitarian Cooperation, Caliber.Az has learnt from the Cabinet of Ministers.
The ministers were accompanied by representatives from both governments.
During the visit, the guests were given a detailed presentation on the port’s operations and infrastructure, highlighting its expanding capacity and strategic role in Eurasian trade. Officials were briefed on the ambitious second phase of development currently underway, which aims to boost the port’s annual cargo throughput from 15 million to 25 million tonnes.
The expansion project is expected to significantly enhance Azerbaijan’s position as a key transport and logistics gateway linking Europe and Asia via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Following the presentation, the delegation toured key sections of the port, including the main cargo terminal, the Ro-Ro terminal, the ferry terminal, and the sorting yard, gaining firsthand insight into the port’s current capabilities and future potential.
Officials on both sides expressed optimism that enhanced port infrastructure will further stimulate regional trade and deepen economic ties between Iran and Azerbaijan.
