Iranian FM: US seeks to impose terms rather than engage in genuine negotiations
Iran does not regard negotiations with the United States as an equal dialogue, but rather as an attempt by Washington to impose its conditions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Speaking at a press conference, Araghchi said past experience had shown that the United States viewed negotiations not as a process of dialogue, but as a means of dictating its positions, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He argued that objectives Washington failed to achieve through pressure and military action, including US strikes on Iranian territory in June, could not be imposed at the negotiating table.
Araghchi said Iran would only consider the possibility of renewed talks if the United States fundamentally changed its approach to negotiations, adding that Tehran was not yet convinced Washington was prepared to do so.
Five rounds of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States on nuclear issues, mediated by Oman in 2025, ended without results.
The talks collapsed following the launch of Israel’s military operation against Iran and subsequent US air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
