IRGC links Strait of Hormuz access to breaking ties with US, Israel
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced conditions under which countries could be granted safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
According to CNN, the IRGC said that any Arab or European country that expels Israeli and US ambassadors from its territory would be allowed unhindered transit through the strait beginning March 10.
The IRGC stated that these countries would receive the “full right and freedom” to use the strategic waterway if they sever diplomatic relations with both Israel and the United States.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, with nearly one-fifth of global oil supplies passing through the narrow maritime route, which has become a focal point of risk for international energy markets.
The ongoing war involving the United States and Israel against Iran has driven oil prices higher for two primary reasons: the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz and a reduction in oil production across parts of the Middle East.
