Israel launches strikes on Iran’s key energy, petrochemical infrastructure
Israel targeted Iran’s largest petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh, in what Defence Minister Israel Katz described as a “severe economic blow” to Tehran.
Several explosions were reported at the South Pars Petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh, Tasnim News Agency reports.
Companies supplying electricity, water, and oxygen to the petrochemical plants were hit, though the Pars Petrochemical Company itself was not damaged. The report noted that electricity to all Asaluyeh petrochemical units has been cut.
In March, Israel carried out an attack on Iran’s main energy source, the South Pars gas field, and its associated infrastructure at the nearby Asaluyeh processing hub. The strikes prompted Iranian retaliatory attacks on energy targets across the Middle East, escalating regional tensions.
Earlier reports stated that Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that the IDF had carried out a powerful strike on Iran’s largest petrochemical plant.
