Meanwhile, in a show of solidarity, the Brandenburg Gate was illuminated in the colours of the Israeli flag to mark the anniversary of the Hamas militants' incursion into Israeli territory.
Since the evening of October 7, a blue and white Israeli flag featuring the Star of David has been projected onto the gate, accompanied by the message "Bring them home now."
This message is dedicated to the Israeli hostages who have been held by Hamas for a year. Berlin's Mayor Kai Wegner remarked, "Berlin sends a message to the world that we stand with Israel and that we hope, together with the families of the hostages, that humanity and compassion will always prevail over hatred."
The date marks one year since the Hamas militants infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip. On this day, pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrations took place in various cities across Germany.
In solidarity with Israel, the German Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior also lowered their flags.
