Kazakhstan celebrates People’s Unity Day with nationwide events
Kazakhstan is celebrating People’s Unity Day on May 1, with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extending congratulations to citizens and underscoring the importance of solidarity, tolerance, and national cohesion.
“Dear compatriots! I sincerely congratulate you on the People’s Unity Day of Kazakhstan!” Tokayev said in his address, emphasising that the holiday symbolises the “enduring values of our society: solidarity and cohesion, tolerance and respect, patriotism and love for our native land.”
The president noted that Kazakhstan brings together people of different ethnic backgrounds who have become “one large family,” describing this unity as a key national heritage. He also referenced the concept of “Unity in diversity,” calling it a reflection of both state policy and everyday life in the country.
“By the will of history, Kazakhstan has brought together under its sacred shanyrak people of different ethnic groups who have become one large family. This is our heritage,” Tokayev said.
He also highlighted traditional values of peace, compassion, and mutual assistance, citing the saying: “Harmony is priceless happiness.”
To mark the occasion, a series of cultural and public events has been organised across the capital. Around 60 events are planned, with the main celebrations taking place on May 1.
Among the key highlights is the “Qazaqstan – birlik mekeni” festival at the House of Friendship, featuring national cuisine, craft exhibitions, workshops, and a concert programme.
