Kazakhstan explores production of new ultra-clean petrol
Kazakhstan is considering the production of K6-grade petrol, the cleanest type of fuel currently available.
The country’s automotive market monitoring agency is assessing the move as part of long-term plans for the refining sector, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakhstani media.
Artur Miskaryan, Director General of the Agency for Monitoring and Analysis of the Automotive Market, explained that Kazakhstan currently produces AI-92 and AI-95 petrol of K4 standard. K5-grade petrol is manufactured at refineries in Atyrau and Shymkent, but only for specific orders from individual consumers.
“The development strategy for Kazakhstan’s oil refining sector for 2025–2040 foresees the transition to K5-grade petrol between 2026 and 2032. Beyond that, the possibility of producing K6-grade fuel is also under consideration. For now, it is a matter of observation,” he said.
K6 petrol meets the Euro-6 standard and contains extremely low levels of sulphur and other harmful compounds, including aromatic and olefin hydrocarbons.
It is the most environmentally friendly petrol currently available, producing fewer engine deposits and promoting more efficient performance.
