Kyrgyzstan arrests man suspected of ISIS links PHOTO
Authorities in Kyrgyzstan have detained a citizen suspected of being recruited via Telegram by the international terrorist organisation Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).
According to the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), the suspect, identified as A.Ch.K., had been studying extremist ideologies online, repeatedly attempting to travel to conflict zones, and seeking ways to acquire weapons, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Investigators also found that he had been actively sharing videos and materials bearing ISIS symbols on social media. His home was searched, and extremist literature, an ISIS flag, and an unlicensed traumatic pistol were seized.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 255 of the Kyrgyz Criminal Code, covering “public calls to commit terrorist activities.”
The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention at SIZO-27 in the city of Karakol, Issyk-Kul region.
