Lachin to worthily represent its culture as CIS cultural capital, says Azerbaijani PM
The honorary status of CIS Cultural Capital will enable Lachin to proudly showcase its rich cultural heritage and diversity, said Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
Speaking at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government of CIS countries in Moscow, Asadov said close cooperation among CIS countries facilitates the achievement of all goals in an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Baku places great importance on collaboration within the framework of the interstate program Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth. As is known, following the decision of the Council of Heads of State on October 8 of this year, the city of Lachin was declared the Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth for 2025. The liberated Lachin is now undergoing rapid reconstruction. In this city, with its majestic nature and centuries-old history, large-scale infrastructure and social projects are being swiftly implemented, aimed at restoring life and achieving economic prosperity,” said Asadov.
The prime minister noted that more than 2,000 former displaced persons have already returned to Lachin, and the Lachin International Airport is set to open next year.
“I am confident that the honorary status of CIS Cultural Capital will allow Lachin to present its cultural wealth and diversity in the best possible light,” Asadov added.
Asadov also congratulated the Russian Federation on its successful chairmanship of the CIS this year and wished Tajikistan success as it assumes the role of chair in 2025.
