Latvian premier’s "iron curtain" remarks on Russia stir diplomatic tensions
14 March 2024 14:12
Commenting on Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina's statement about an "iron curtain" with Russia, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out that the Baltics do not have enough iron for such needs.
"Is there enough iron? Or will they buy it from Russia?" Zakharova noted, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Before that, Evika Siliņa said that an "iron curtain" would emerge between the Baltic countries and Russia, as well as Belarus in the future.
First of all, said the prime minister, it is about ensuring economic and energy independence from Russia.
According to her, it's "not so easy" to achieve this goal. The countries of the region are still in the process, Silina added.
