Makhachkala airport suspends operations after drone attack attempt
Makhachkala Airport in Dagestan has suspended operations following an attempted drone strike on facilities in nearby Kaspiysk, according to Sergei Melikov, the head of the Republic of Dagestan.
Melikov confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or damage from the incident, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The general director of the airport, Said Ramazanov said heightened security measures would be in effect until 11:30 AM local time.
In a statement, Melikov added, “Today, according to preliminary information, another unsuccessful attempt of a drone attack on facilities in Kaspiysk was carried out.”
Earlier, on the night of November 30, Russia's air defence forces successfully repelled a drone attack over the Belgorod region, with eight drone-type aircraft being shot down. Additionally, three UAVs were downed over the Black Sea. The aftermath of these attacks remains unclear.
On November 29, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that three settlements in the region were targeted by drones, with two civilians suffering injuries.
Since August 9, 2024, a counter-terrorist operation regime has been in place in Belgorod, and as of August 15, the situation in the region was officially declared a federal emergency.
