Marking 30 years of oil success: Baku's tribute to the "Contract of the Century"
On September 20, an event was held at Gulustan Palace to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the “Contract of the Century” alongside Oilman's Day.
The gathering included officials and representatives from local and international companies, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The event featured a video presentation showcasing speeches by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev from the previous year regarding the energy sector. SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf read a congratulatory letter from President Aliyev to the oil workers, expressing gratitude for the ongoing development of Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry.
Firdovsi Ahmedov then read a letter of appreciation from the oil workers addressed to President Aliyev.
The ceremony also included the signing of several cooperation agreements. SOCAR, bp, ONGC Videsh, TPAO, ExxonMobil, Itochu, Inpex, MOL Group, and Equinor signed the “Second Annex to the Agreement dated September 14, 2017,” which pertains to the joint development of the Azeri, Chirag, and deep-water part of the Guneshli fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Additionally, SOCAR and bp signed memorandums of understanding for cooperation on various oil and gas projects, including the “Garabagh” and “Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aipara” oil fields, aimed at enhancing energy supply security.
SOCAR and MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas also formalized a memorandum for exploration, development, and production at the Shamakhi-Gobustan field.
Then, on the joint initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation and SOCAR, a stamp redemption ceremony was held to mark the 30th anniversary of the “Contract of the Century”. The envelopes were redeemed by SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transportation Javid Gurbanov, bp Executive Vice President for Production and Operations Gordon Birrell, bp Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye Gary Jones.
The event concluded with the screening of the short film “Four Friends,” commissioned by SOCAR.
