Massive Ukrainian drone attack repelled over several Russian regions
On the night of February 3, Russian air defence forces intercepted and neutralized 70 Ukrainian drones in various regions of Russia.
Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement, cited by Caliber.Az, that the drones were shot down over several areas: 27 over the Rostov region, 25 over the Volgograd region, 7 over the Astrakhan region, 5 over the Voronezh region, 4 over the Belgorod region, and 2 over Kursk region. No significant consequences from the wreckage of the downed UAVs have been reported.
The debris from the UAVs caused localized fires at an oil refinery in Volgograd, though authorities confirmed that these were quickly contained. There were also short-term voltage fluctuations in the region’s power grid, but power supply has since been fully restored in Volgograd and surrounding municipalities, according to the region’s governor.
In the Astrakhan region, another night attack by Ukrainian forces targeting fuel and energy infrastructure was repelled. Governor Igor Babushkin reported that a fire broke out due to falling debris from one of the drones, though no casualties were reported.
As a precautionary measure, temporary restrictions were imposed on the reception and release of flights at the airports of Vladikavkaz, Grozny, and Makhachkala at 07:44 on February 3, according to Rosaviatsiya. The restrictions were implemented to ensure the safety of civilian air traffic.
