Media: Armenian Church postpones bishops’ meeting
The Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, has postponed a bishops’ meeting scheduled for next week, citing the current situation in Armenia and growing concerns over state pressure on the clergy.
“Taking into account the current situation in Armenia, particularly the repressions being carried out against clergy, including arrests, and responding to the request of the bishops, the convening of the bishops’ assembly under the direction of the Catholicos of All Armenians is temporarily postponed,” the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
The gathering had been planned for December 10–12 and was expected to address recent developments affecting the Armenian Apostolic Church as well as internal church matters.
