MFA: Armenia reserves right to replace ambassador to Russia
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated that it is Armenia's prerogative to replace its current ambassador to Russia.
“There are established procedures for addressing these matters,” he said, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
Earlier, Alen Simonyan, President of the Armenian National Assembly, announced that Yerevan plans to replace its ambassador to Russia and that a candidate has already been proposed.
“It is the prerogative of the sending country to decide the ambassadorial candidacy for a particular nation. In this instance, it pertains to the Armenian leadership's intention to appoint a new ambassador to the Russian Federation. There are established procedures to address such matters, and they will be followed,” Galuzin informed reporters.
Armenian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Vagharshak Harutyunyan was appointed in January 2022.
According to Armenian media, the authorities have proposed MP Gurgen Arsenyan from the ruling Civil Contract party, a businessman, as the new ambassador to Russia.
However, he did not receive the agrement.
