Military attaches accredited in Azerbaijan visit Port of Baku PHOTO
Proceeding from the action plan for 2024 approved by the Azerbaijani defence minister, military attachés from foreign countries accredited in Azerbaijan visited the Baku International Sea Trade Port.
Some 15 representatives from the military attaché offices of 12 different countries attended the event, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Visitors were informed about the history of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, its spheres of operation, fields of cooperation, and future plans. At the conclusion of the visit, guests had the opportunity to explore the infrastructure and facilities of the port.
The Port of Baku, situated along the historic Silk Road that links Europe and Asia, serves as a key transport and logistics hub for Eurasia. Spanning 400 hectares, it plays a crucial role in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, offering efficient cargo services through its modern operational systems.
The port features both open and covered storage facilities suitable for all cargo types. Located 70 km from Baku at a major intersection of Azerbaijan's railways and highways, it boasts 13 berths, including a Ro-Ro terminal, a ferry terminal, and a general cargo terminal.
Following the completion of its first construction phase in 2018, the port's capacity was raised to handle 15 million tons of cargo and 100,000 TEU equivalent containers. Plans for a second construction phase are underway, which could further increase its annual capacity to 25 million tons and 500,000 TEU containers.
