Minister: Azerbaijan promotes peace agenda
The officials of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the heads of Azerbaijani diplomatic missions accredited to foreign countries, held an event entitled "Revival of Aghdam" at the Conference Centre of the city of Aghdam.
"According to President Ilham Aliyev's policy, Azerbaijan promotes the agenda of peace, progress, and development in the region. This is our number one priority. However, parallel to this, of course, historical crimes and tragic pages of our country should not be forgotten so that history does not repeat itself. This should be an important part of our agenda," Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said while speaking at the event, Azertag reports.
The minister noted that continuous work should be done towards eliminating the mine threat to the people of Azerbaijan, who suffered, had their rights violated, and lived a life of forced displacement and refugees for nearly 30 years, creating the opportunity for people expelled from Armenia to return to those areas, and other directions.
“Today, the monthly, weekly increase in bloody statistics on the number of mine victims is a war crime. This should not be forgotten. At the same time, the disappearance of about 4,000 of our people for nearly 30 years, not sharing any information about them during this period, and the discovery of numerous mass graves in a short period of time only after the Azerbaijan state returned to these lands is a confirmation of these crimes,” Bayramov said.
