Montenegro sees Azerbaijan as key partner for energy and investment growth
Montenegro’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović said investments from Montenegro into Azerbaijan are of significant importance, speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku.
“We hope that investments from Azerbaijan will also increase in the future,” Ibrahimović said, according to domestic media.
He noted that his talks with Bayramov also addressed the peace process between Baku and Yerevan, including the Washington agreements. According to Ibrahimović, Montenegro welcomes the progress achieved so far in this direction.
“We welcome the agreements reached, the implementation of which is moving in a positive direction. We hope that Azerbaijan will continue to demonstrate peace, stability, and prosperity not only in the region but also globally. We are also interested in further deepening cooperation,” he stated.
Ibrahimović emphasised Azerbaijan’s ambition to become a leader in the transportation of energy resources, while pointing out that Montenegro could, in the longer term, serve as an energy hub linking the Balkans and Europe.
“Montenegro’s advantageous geographic position in terms of transporting energy resources to Europe increases interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan and opens opportunities for the implementation of many joint projects,” the minister said.
He also highlighted Montenegro’s strong potential in the renewable energy sector, noting that the country enjoys more than 200 sunny days each year and has substantial hydropower resources.
“I believe we will be able to find opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the Ionian–Adriatic Pipeline, which would have strategic significance from Azerbaijan to Western Europe,” Ibrahimović added.
