Moscow blasts EU commissioners for trying to harm Armenia–Russia ties “Brussels vampires”
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has accused the European Union of attempting to damage ties between Armenia and Russia, following statements by senior EU officials.
Maria Zakharova, the ministry’s spokesperson, criticised the EU’s position, describing comments by High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos as politically motivated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Zakharova likened the officials to “Brussels vampires” who, she claimed, “encourage others to become like them: to avoid looking in mirrors and to fear sunlight, energy, and power.”
The criticism came after Kallas warned that Armenia faces “serious information challenges” ahead of its parliamentary elections, alleging that Russia and affiliated entities are conducting "disinformation campaigns" similar to those previously "observed in Moldova."
Zakharova asserted that such rhetoric demonstrates that the EU’s primary goal in Armenia is to weaken Armenia–Russia ties, rather than promote peace or regional development.
She added that these statements expose the true political motivations of European officials and their desire to influence domestic processes in the post-Soviet space.
“They have already stopped hiding it, and perhaps they could hide it, but their mental abilities do not allow them to,” she said.
She also stressed that Armenian society has no negative experience from Armenia–Russia energy cooperation, highlighting existing infrastructure, mutually beneficial dialogue, and tangible collaboration.
