MP: Azerbaijan not to open any road until Armenia restores route through Meghri
Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament and political analyst Rasim Musabayov has said Azerbaijan will not open any roads or implement any transport projects until the road through Meghri (Armenia) is restored.
The "Crossroads of Peace" project, initiated by Armenia as an alternative to the Zangezur Corridor, will not be implemented without Azerbaijan's approval, Musabayov said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"Not only Azerbaijan but also Türkiye will not open any roads. In this case, what kind of project is the Armenian side even talking about?"
Musabayov said that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is engaging in propaganda rather than actual work:
"Until the road through Meghri is restored, Azerbaijan will not open a single road. Empty promises won’t get the job done. The project must be approved, funding allocated, tenders held, and concrete restoration work initiated. Empty words from Armenia will not elicit a positive approach from Azerbaijan," he added.
For the record, in early February, Pashinyan proposed to open a modified version of the Zangezur corridor, which would establish a direct link between Azerbaijan proper and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region via Armenian territory.
