Official: Goods produced in Karabakh may gain preferential access to Türkiye
The scope of the preferential trade agreement between Azerbaijan and Türkiye may be expanded, according to statements made by a senior Turkish trade official.
According to local media, Gülizar Yavaş, Chief Trade Counsellor at the Embassy of Türkiye in Azerbaijan, said the expansion was under consideration while speaking at an event in Baku titled “Entering the Turkish Market: Export, Legal and Practical Aspects.”
Yavaş noted that until now the agreement has provided a preferential trade regime for the import and export of 30 goods, but plans are in place to increase that number to 50.
“At present, the list mainly includes agricultural products from Azerbaijan and industrial products from Türkiye,” she said.
She also stated that a list has been defined of goods produced in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories that may be exported to Türkiye. According to Yavaş, these arrangements involve unilateral trade preferences that allow for partial or full tax exemptions.
“This is a special agreement, and it is not published in open sources. However, if a company has investments in Karabakh or produces goods in that territory, and the origin of the goods is documented, it can contact our advisory service to clarify whether the product is included in the list and what opportunities exist for duty-free supplies to Türkiye,” she said.
