Russia's FSB foils terrorist attack on Trans-Siberian Railway
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has foiled a terrorist attack on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Urals plotted by a Ukrainian military intelligence agent, the FSB press office told TASS on March 16.
"The FSB has detained a Russian citizen born in 1962 who plotted a terror attack at a railway hub of the Trans-Siberian Railroad in the Sverdlovsk Region on an assignment from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Department," the press office said in a statement.
The Russian national was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence in Lviv, underwent sabotage training and was sent to Russia to commit terror attacks with the use of improvised explosives on railway trains delivering cargo for the special military operation, it specified.
"The suspect confessed to the wrongdoing and is cooperating with the investigative team," the press office said.
Investigators have opened a criminal probe against the suspect under part 3, article 30 and part 2, article 205 of Russia’s Criminal Code ("An Attempted Terrorist Act"). The suspect has been taken into custody. Measures continue to document the suspect’s criminal activity, the press office said.
