Russia, Türkiye explore creation of regional gas hub at economic forum
Russia and Türkiye have held talks on expanding energy cooperation, including the creation of a regional gas hub, during a meeting at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar discussed the terms of Russian energy supplies to the Turkish market, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
According to a statement from the Russian government, the talks covered a broad range of issues, including collaboration in the oil, gas, coal, electricity, and nuclear sectors.
Particular attention was given to the proposed gas hub project and progress on the Russian-built Akkuyu nuclear power plant in southern Türkiye.
“In light of the turbulent situation in the region and globally, cooperation in the energy sector is of particular importance,” Novak said.
“Industry is the driving force of the Turkish economy, and it cannot develop without stable energy supplies.”
He added that Russia remains a reliable supplier of natural resources to Türkiye.
