Russian air defences down 12 Ukrainian drones over four regions overnight

06 January 2025 10:12

On the night of January 6, Russian air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 12 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across four Russian regions, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported via its official Telegram channel.

According to the ministry, seven drones were downed over the Kursk region, while two UAVs were destroyed each over the Bryansk and Belgorod regions. Additionally, one drone was intercepted over Crimea, Caliber.Az reports.

The Belgorod region saw significant damage following the attack, particularly in the village of Rzhevka, located in the Shebekino district. Two individuals were reported injured due to shrapnel from the UAVs. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod, confirmed that one of the men sustained wounds to his face, chest, and arm, while the other suffered a head injury, barotrauma, and concussion. Both were transported to Belgorod's City Hospital No. 2 by ambulance crews.

The attack also caused damage to local infrastructure, with two apartment buildings in the village having their windows shattered and facades damaged. Four cars were affected by falling debris from the destroyed drones.

This latest incident follows a previous attack on January 5, when Russian air defences downed 61 Ukrainian drones across five regions. In that attack, debris from the destroyed UAVs fell in the Rostov region, causing damage to residential buildings and vehicles.
