Russian FM signals openness to Western dialogue only on Moscow’s terms
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is open to considering proposals from Western partners aimed at improving bilateral relations, provided these initiatives take into account and respect Moscow's interests.
Addressing a press conference, Lavrov referenced statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that Russia will never return to the situation that existed before early 2022, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Lavrov criticized the West, claiming that despite agreeing on certain principles after the end of the Cold War, Western countries often violated agreements and acted to suppress the legitimate interests of Russia and other global competitors.
"Therefore, we have drawn conclusions for ourselves," Lavrov remarked, underscoring that Russia is not closing the door on relations with any country. However, he added that Moscow would carefully evaluate any proposals from Western nations, particularly those that have imposed sanctions on Russia and accused it of various transgressions.
"If they come to their senses and propose concrete actions based on mutual respect for each other's interests, we will take a look and draw conclusions based on the content of such possible proposals," Lavrov concluded, signaling that Russia is watching closely for any genuine shift in the West's approach.
