Russian FM: Trump Gaza plan "best on the table", yet hurdles persist
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has described US President Donald Trump’s plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip as the “best on the table,” while stressing that the issue is far from fully resolved.
Lavrov said Trump and other regional leaders must ensure an immediate ceasefire, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Lavrov added that Moscow hopes for the success of the upcoming Gaza summit in Egypt and expects all agreements reached to be fully implemented.
U.S. President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza peace plan, announced in late September 2025, aimed to end the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The plan outlines a phased approach, beginning with a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
Hamas has released all 20 surviving Israeli hostages held since the October 7, 2023, attacks. The final group of 13 hostages was handed over on October 13, marking a pivotal moment in the ceasefire agreement. This release was part of a broader prisoner swap, with nearly 2,000 Palestinian detainees being transferred to Gaza.
Amid the ceasefire, Hamas has deployed fighters in Gaza to maintain internal security and prevent lawlessness. This move aims to manage the growing instability as approximately 2 million residents return to their homes.
