Russian forces shoot down eight Ukrainian drones over Belgorod

Russian air defence forces destroyed eight Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod Region, the Defence Ministry said in its Telegram channel.

“Air defence forces on duty destroyed eight Ukrainian drones over the territory of the Belgorod region,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ministry.

Border regions are regularly subjected to shelling and attacks, including drone attacks, by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Thus, the previous day the ministry reported two downed Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region. According to the ministry, the attack was foiled at around 11:30 Moscow time.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, marking a major escalation in the Russo-Ukrainian War, which had been ongoing since 2014. The invasion, the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II, has resulted in hundreds of thousands of military casualties and tens of thousands of civilian deaths in Ukraine.

As of 2024, Russian forces control approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory. From Ukraine's population of 41 million, around 8 million people have been internally displaced, while over 8.2 million have fled the country by April 2023, creating Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II.
