Russian official: West lures Armenia with EU membership bait
Western countries have no intention to invite Armenia to the European Union, it is just bait with the help of which Yerevan wants to achieve loyalty, Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev believes. He expressed this view in an article published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"No one intends to open the doors of the 'club of the chosen' for the Armenian people – ask the neo-Banderites (referring to the Ukrainian authorities) if they managed to secure EU membership. No, and they will not get it in the near future," Medvedev wrote.
According to the politician, the resolution on strengthening relations between Armenia and the European Union signed in 2024, is merely a document that does not impose any specific obligations on the European side.
Medvedev also commented on the situation in Moldova, comparing it to that of Armenia. He suggested that Moldova might be turned into an appendage of Romania through the course of "European integration."
