Russian politician: Armenian political leadership's game went too far
Russian politician and former Federation Council Senator Frants Klintsevich has said that Armenia's political leadership's game went too far.
"Armenia has long ago started to differentiate its security issues, and the actions it has taken recently, sometimes resembling a kind of betrayal in relations with Russia, like France's activities, of course, work with NATO, but Pashinyan, in my opinion, does not fully understand its consequences," Klintsevich said during his interview with Armenian media, commenting on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's recent statements regarding the diversification of the country's security system, Caliber.Az reports.
"They are playing with him to mess with Russia. And the fact that he will now buy American weapons, switch to the NATO standard and is already training his soldiers and officers according to the NATO standard, will bring big and serious problems. We have our own agreements, and we have our own law enforcement agencies on the territory of Armenia, they provide serious support, and the degradation of these relations, I think, is not necessary for Armenia today.
The question arises: 'Why?' Because Pashinyan has long been convinced that he should be friends with the West, not with Russia. Russia will not protect him, but so far only Russia protects Armenia. And this attempt is a way to nowhere, especially since the problems of Europe and NATO will become too acute for them in the near future. They have already played too much, as, in principle, has the political leadership of Armenia.
In addition, the Republic of Armenia's current vacillations are fraught with big, serious consequences due to the current international processes that are going on in the world, due to the escalation of conflicts that are taking place today. In this regard, many other forces can take advantage of Armenia's weakness," the politician said.
