Slovak delegation to join Southern gas corridor, green energy talks in Baku
Representatives of Slovakia’s gas industry are set to travel to Baku for high-level meetings focused on the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and green energy cooperation, the Slovak Embassy in Azerbaijan announced.
The Slovak delegation will include the country’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Elchin Gasimov, alongside industry representatives. The visit comes as Azerbaijan prepares to host the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council in early March, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Ministerial meetings under the SGC Advisory Council format have been held annually since February 2015, serving as a platform for dialogue among participating governments, energy companies and international financial institutions. Meetings dedicated to green energy cooperation were launched more recently, in February 2023, reflecting a growing emphasis on renewable energy development and regional energy transition.
The Southern Gas Corridor is a major energy infrastructure initiative designed to transport natural gas from the Caspian region to European markets. The corridor plays a strategic role in Europe’s efforts to diversify energy supplies.
Amid rising demand for Azerbaijani gas in Europe, plans are under consideration to expand export capacity by increasing throughput along the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which form key segments of the corridor delivering gas to Southern and Southeastern Europe.
The upcoming meetings in Baku are expected to address both the future expansion of gas supplies and broader cooperation on green energy initiatives, as participating countries seek to balance energy security with sustainability goals.
