SOCAR explores energy sector cooperation with Somalia
Azerbaijan’s state oil company, SOCAR, is exploring opportunities to collaborate with Somalia in various areas of the energy sector, including exploration and trading.
Discussions were held during a meeting between SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dahir Shire Mohamed, Caliber.Az reports.
The meeting highlighted that the high-level talks on February 12 between Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud have created a solid foundation for cooperation between the two nations across various sectors, including energy.
Additional topics of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
To recall, on February 12, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev hosted Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, marking the first bilateral visit between the two nations. In a joint press conference, both leaders expressed optimism about future cooperation.
“This is a historic visit and the first in the history of bilateral relations between our countries. I am sure that the visit will open a new page in the close friendly relationship between our countries,” said President Aliyev.
He also emphasised Azerbaijan’s strong defence industry, stating, “Azerbaijan has elaborated strong defense industry potential, manufacturing many of the defense equipment.”
President Mohamud highlighted Somalia’s commitment to building a strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, stating, “This visit is not just a diplomatic engagement. Indeed, it is the beginning of a meaningful and strategic alliance between our two brotherly countries.”
